Sports Medicine Evaluation

What is Veterinary Sports Medicine?

Specialists in Canine Sports Medicine focus on the injuries of all active dogs, youngsters and seniors alike, not just working and sporting dogs.  In Colorado that’s most dogs!  Many injuries are subtle, involving the soft tissues like muscle, tendon, ligament and fascia.  Despite what we learned in veterinary school, it’s not all bones and joints!

A specific diagnosis is the key to effective therapy.  A detailed and comprehensive orthopedic, myofascial, and neurologic evaluation aids getting that diagnosis. When needed, Dr. Mich augments her evaluations with imaging. She performs musculoskeletal ultrasound. Other diagnostics such as lab work, radiographs, and sedated exams are obtained in collaboration with the family veterinarian.

An integrative treatment plan is developed for each patient and may include: joint or epidural injections  (e.g. PRP, stem cells, PAG, corticosteroid), medications, supplements, nutrition, rehabilitation, veterinary orthotics and prosthetics (V-OP).
